OVERNIGHTER

THE ROCK RETREAT

A Women’s Climbing, Camping & Yoga Experience
Womens Outdoor Club, Trillium Alpine
Guides, Chalkra & Arc’teryx

LOCATION: Smith Rock State Park
DATE: October 23-25
SPACES: [12]

Two nights in the high desert. Two days on the rock. A climbing weekend led by women, for women

We’re packing up camp and heading to Smith Rock for a weekend built around doing things that make you feel a little more alive. Sleeping under cold October skies, waking up for sunrise yoga, hiking into the crag with everything we need for the day, and learning how to climb outside with two female guides from Trillium Alpine Guides.

We’ll be on the rock—learning knots, ropes, belaying, movement, falling safely, and climbing routes 70–100 feet above the desert floor. This is a place to learn, not a place to already know. Beginners are very welcome.

When we’re not climbing, we’ll make camp feel like our own little world.

Friday night starts around the fire with wine and stargazing. Saturday morning begins with yoga as the sun comes over the canyon before we hike out for a full day of climbing. We’ll carry lunch to the crag, climb into the afternoon, then wander back to camp tired and dusty.

That evening: rock painting, appetizers by the fire, a long communal dinner under the big tent, reflections, stories and stars. Bring a costume if you dare.

Sunday, we wake up and do it all again. Sunrise yoga, coffee, breakfast, one last hike into the rocks and a final climbing session before making our way back to camp for goodbyes.

Your weekend includes two nights of camping, two days of professionally guided climbing, climbing gear demos by Arc’teryx, climbing chalk by Chalkra, sunrise yoga, art materials, two breakfasts, lunch at the crag, Saturday night dinner + too many of snacks.

WHAT TO EXPECT - We’ll be tent camping Friday and Saturday night in the high desert. Bring your own camping and sleeping setup, personal items, and plenty of warm layers—late October means cold mornings and nights, wind, and changing weather. This is camping, not glamping, so expect limited amenities.

Saturday and Sunday are full, active days outside. After optional sunrise yoga and breakfast, we’ll hike over uneven terrain to the crag carrying our water, layers, food, and personal gear. Expect to spend several hours there, rotating between climbing, belaying, learning, resting, and eating.

Our two female guides from Trillium Alpine Guides will teach equipment, knots, belaying, technique, communication, and outdoor climbing safety. No previous outdoor climbing experience is necessary. Arc’teryx harnesses are provided; climbing shoes are not, so you’ll need to bring your own.

Meals include Saturday + Sunday breakfast, Saturday lunch at the crag, Saturday dinner, and snacks. Bring any additional food you need, particularly for dietary restrictions or bigger appetites.

This is an active weekend, but nothing is mandatory. Take a break, skip a climb, sit out yoga, or spend some time watching. Come prepared for cold mornings, dirt, tired muscles, shared spaces, long days outside, and a very real weekend of camping and climbing.

GUIDES

Theresa Silveyra—
Theresa grew up in Southwest Washington with the Cascade volcanoes in her backyard, but it wasn’t until finishing grad school that she started climbing and fell in love with being in the mountains. She had the incredible privilege of starting her guiding career in 2021 with Climbers of Color, a Seattle based nonprofit providing climbing education and leadership affinity course opportunities for Black, Indigenous, and people of color. Prior to guiding, Theresa worked as a music educator for 15+ years and enjoys bringing her extensive teaching experience into her work as a guide, helping clients and students develop the skills to pursue their climbing goals. Outside of guiding and personal climbing, she also volunteers as a member of Portland Mountain Rescue. Arc’teryx Athlete Ambassador. @theresasilveyra

AMGA Assistant Alpine Guide/AMGA Apprentice Rock Guide/Professional Level 1 Avalanche Certification/Wilderness First Responder.

Rosa Padilla—
Rosa fell in love with rock climbing over 8 years ago and has just started her career as a climbing instructor and outdoor educator. When she isn’t instructing climbers at Smith Rock, she works as a Trip Leader for Explore Austin and an instructor for Outward Bound. She volunteers her time as a math tutor and as an advisor for Post 58, a non-profit based in Portland which helps organize student-led expeditions. Rosa grew up in Florida, but has lived in various parts of the country where she has spent much of her time climbing, biking, hiking and exploring with her pup. She attended college at Georgia Tech in Atlanta where she graduated with a degree in Biomedical Engineering, and she spent over eight years in the medical industry, designing orthopedic implants such as Spinal rod/screw systems and Shoulder Replacement systems. She moved to the Pacific Northwest to pursue her passion for climbing and guiding. Rosa aspires to learn and grow as an alpine climber and is always eager to gain new experiences and to instruct others, as they do the same. @rockin_rosa

AMGA Apprentice Rock Guide/Wilderness First Responder

Koby Yudkin—
Koby's love for the mountains bloomed in high school when he was first introduced to climbing and mountaineering through an outdoor program in Portland, Oregon. From rime ice-covered days on Mt. Hood to aching fingers after a weekend of climbing at Smith Rock, he quickly realized that challenge, joy, and growth often come hand in hand in the outdoors. Koby guides rock climbing, alpine climbing, and backcountry skiing throughout the Cascades and beyond. He meets every client where they are, whether that's an introduction to rock climbing or a technical alpine objective, and aims to create a supportive environment where people can surprise themselves with their true abilities. Whether it's long summer days climbing in the alpine or dawn patrol missions for first tracks on Mt. Hood, he's passionate about helping others experience the same sense of adventure, connection, and discovery that drew him to the mountains in the first place. Koby co-founded Trillium Alpine Guides in 2024. @trilliumalpineguides

*Koby will be primarily offsite assisting with camp set up for Trillium Alpine Guides.

SMITH ROCK

Smith Rock is Oregon's premier rock climbing destination, and one of the best sport climbing areas in the United States. This world-renowned sport climbing mecca has more than once been at the focal point of the climbing world. Extensive development took place in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s by locals and international climbers alike, who put up scores of classic climbs on the tuff and basalt cliffs; development continues to this day with new moderates and cutting-edge routes going up each year. Ranging from classic beginner routes to hardcore testpieces on a wide variety of rock, there is truly something here for everyone. Although best known for its sport climbing traditional climbers can find plenty to be excited about here as well.

Located in the high desert in central Oregon, Smith Rock State Park’s cliffs and hillsides take a commanding presence over the surrounding terrain. The main cliffs are made of volcanic welded tuff, and surrounding bands of columnar basalt lie above the winding Crooked River.
